How to Send Us a Recipe the Laser Will Love

Scanning It

  1. Use a flatbed scanner, the kind with a glass lid. Your printer’s scanner, the library or an office store all work.
  2. Lay the card face down on the glass, nice and straight, and close the lid gently.
  3. Set it to 300 DPI, in colour. Colour helps us pull faded ink off a yellowed card, even if the board ends up one tone.
  4. Scan the whole card, edges and all. Don’t crop. We’ll do the tidying.
  5. Save it as a JPG or PDF somewhere you’ll find it again (your Desktop is perfect).

Attaching It

  1. Close this box and find Upload it here on the page.
  2. Click Choose File (on a phone, tap it and pick Files or Photos).
  3. Pick your scan. You’ll see its name beside the button, and that’s it, it’s attached.
  4. Choose your board and click Add to Cart. Your file travels with your order.

Good to Know

  • Why not a phone photo? Phone photos come out tilted and shadowy, and the laser engraves every shadow it sees. Ask us how we know.
  • Stains, splatters and notes in the margin are half the charm. Use the notes box to tell us if you’d like them kept or cleaned up.
  • Faded pencil? Scan it anyway. We’ll see what we can rescue, and we’ll be upfront if it won’t engrave well.
  • Photos and logos: the biggest, clearest file you have. A tiny picture saved off Facebook won’t cut it (literally).
  • JPG, PNG, PDF or TIFF, up to 25 MB. Two or more cards? Upload one here and e-mail us the rest after you order.
  • Your design is included in the board price. Recipes, handwriting, photos and logos take a good bit of extra workshop magic to engrave crisply, so they carry an extra design fee (from $25). We quote it up front and send a proof, and nothing is touched until you say go.

How It Works

  2. Tell us what you’d like. A family name, names and a wedding date, initials, a favourite saying, or describe your idea in the box. Have a recipe, handwriting, a photo or a logo? Upload it right on this page.
  3. We send you a proof. We design it and e-mail you a proof before we engrave anything. Names, dates and sayings: design included. Old recipes, handwriting, photos and logos carry a design fee (from $25), quoted up front.
  4. We make it in the Barn. Once you say yes, we engrave it, check it over and get it ready for pickup or Canada Post.

Some of these boards are sitting in the Barn waiting for a job. Others we order in when you pick them, which is how we keep the price down. Good things, a little patience.
